Camden Yards 5-6 April

We cheated a bit and started the baseball trip in Baltimore during the week before John's retirement. The tour appropriately started with a walk by baseball's national treasure, Babe Ruth.

When you enter Camden Yards, there is no doubt where you are or what is about to take place. This venue was designed for baseball, and Orioles Baseball at that. From the “This is Birdland” signs to Boog’s Bar-B-Q, the history of the Orioles and the game are ever present.

This is about as close to Winter that I am interested in seeing anytime soon. Kate's Brother Phil and his wife joined us for one of the games which really made it a good time. Further, this was our first experience with "Emily," the British voice that emanates from our GPS. More about that on another day.

Once inside the stadium, you see why everyone raves about Camden Yards. There is hardly a bad seat in the house and the crowds are the real deal. They are hear to see baseball and they appreciate the game. Many are very familiar with the present and past Orioles teams. We sat right along the third base line, conversed with the locals and had a great time. This is a real baseball town!

These games were against the Mariners and we were fortunate enough to watch the great Ichiro play. We have seen him a half dozen times before, but he never ceases to amaze. One the day that this picture was taken, he went 2 for 4 with a Home Run and a stolen base. No surprise that Seattle forked out the big bucks for this guy.

But you gotta root for the home team (most of the time), and we did. The Orioles came through with two wins, both in come from behind fashion.

Of course this is our first park, so by definition, it is our favorite thus far. I will build this list through the season.
